GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Get ready for some “bend and snap”! The Galion Community Theatre (GCT) is set to stage “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” running for the last two weekends of June, from the 20 through the 27.
During a recent “Community Spotlight” program, host Randy Bigley spoke with Teresa, who plays Elle Woods, and Alexa, who plays Paulette, about the upcoming production. The musical closely follows the storyline of the popular movie, with some unique twists, particularly in the character of Paulette.
“It definitely keeps to the general storyline of the show,” Alexa said.
For those unfamiliar with “Legally Blonde,” Teresa explained, “The show follows Elle Woods, who is a senior at UCLA and she’s in this relationship with this guy who she thinks she’s going to marry. And then when that doesn’t happen, she ends up going to Harvard Law School. And we kind of, like, follow her story of discovering she’s more than just a pretty face and a blonde.”
While the music is original to the musical, many iconic scenes from the movie are expanded into lively songs, including the famous “bend and snap.”
The cast of 35, supported by a live pit orchestra of about 10 musicians, has been rehearsing since early April. Director and choreographer Beth highlighted the immense talent within the local theater community, noting that this production saw the largest turnout for an adult show in years.
Tickets for “Legally Blonde: The Musical” can be purchased at Galiontheatre.org or by calling the box office at 419-468-2662. While tickets may be available at the door, reservations are highly recommended.
Looking ahead, GCT will present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in late July and early August, featuring a cast of young actors. They also have upcoming kids’ theater camps in early June.
