BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Success Center at North Central State College is buzzing with new programs and opportunities for students and the community. Randy Bigley recently hosted a discussion with Nate Harvey, manager of the Crawford Success Center, and Chris Copper, vice president of foundation and development, to highlight the latest initiatives.
One of the new programs introduced in January is the Turbo Certificate, a 16-week course for high school juniors and seniors. This program offers three tracks: drone operation, manufacturing, and 5G readiness. Students who complete the program will earn industry-recognized credentials, enhancing their employability upon graduation.
The drone program, led by Officer Wallace from the Galion Police Department, teaches students how to operate complex drones used in various emergency situations. The manufacturing track trains students to operate robotic arms and provides quality NIMS training. The 5G readiness track prepares students for the future of technology.
Additionally, the Timken Manufacturing Lab, funded by a generous donation from the Timken Foundation, recently launched to provide training in electrical pneumatics and motor control. This initiative aims to benefit local manufacturers by equipping employees with essential skills.
For those interested in starting at the Crawford Success Center, it’s not too late to enroll for the spring semester, which has a second-half start date of March 17. The summer term begins on May 20. The center also offers college credit certificates in fields such as operations management and cybersecurity, with funding available to cover costs for eligible students.
The NC State Foundation Scholarship Month runs from February 1 to February 28, offering community members the chance to apply for scholarships. The application process is straightforward, and significant funds are available to support students.
The annual Scholarship for Success gala, benefiting Crawford County students, is scheduled for March 6. The event features a live auction, student success stories, and the unveiling of a leadership wall by Tina Husted, wife of Ohio’s Lieutenant Governor. The gala aims to raise funds for scholarships, with 85% of students graduating from North Central State College debt-free.
