CRESTLINE, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crestline Historical Society has a busy spring and summer planned, including a new annex opening, school visits, and a presentation on the Lincoln Highway. Julie Rossington of the Historical Society recently shared details on the “Community Spotlight” radio program.
Rossington announced that the society will not hold its usual third Sunday opening in April due to Easter. However, in May, Mike Coker from the Lincoln Highway Association will visit to discuss the historic roadway and its association.
The Historical Society will take a break from regular monthly openings during June, July, and August, resuming in September with a presentation by Matt Wolfe on original 19th-century weaponry.
A new specialty corner display has been unveiled, honoring the late Coach John Dipietro, a longtime figure in Crawford County sports. His wife donated trophies and photos for the display.
The society is also excited to announce the grand opening of a new annex display building on the first weekend of May, specifically May 3rd and 4th, from 2-4 p.m. The annex will house larger items like signage and farm implements. Refreshments will be available during the opening weekend. The annex will be open during fair weather, likely from May through September.
In an effort to engage younger generations with local history, the Crestline Historical Society is partnering with St. Joseph’s Catholic School and the Crestline Exempted Village Schools to bring their 4th-grade students for museum tours throughout May.
The society is also nearing completion of a long-awaited project: a large brass plaque commemorating the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) Round House, a significant part of Crestline’s history. The plaque is expected to be installed on Bucyrus Street, near the former location of the Round House, in the coming months.
Rossington also mentioned the society’s participation in a recent History Alliance auction, thanking the community for its support. Fundraisers are being planned for the summer, with details to be announced later.
The Crestline Historical Society’s regular operating hours are the first and third weekends of each month from 2-4 p.m. Those interested in scheduling a private visit can call 419-683-3410.
