BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Derek Beat from the Crawford Soil and Water District joined Randy Bigley on Community Spotlight to discuss the district’s ongoing projects and initiatives. Despite the cold weather, the district remains active, shifting focus from fieldwork to computer-based tasks during the winter months.
Currently, the district is conducting its annual tree and fish sale, with some items already selling out. Beat encouraged interested individuals to place their orders soon, as stock is limited and orders will be accepted until early April. Order forms are available online, but purchases must be made in person with cash or check.
Beat also highlighted the upcoming H2Ohio sign-up for crop years 2026-2027, a water quality incentive program aimed at reducing nutrient runoff into waterways. The program includes practices such as nutrient management plans, overwintering cover, and subsurface phosphorus placement. Farmers interested in participating should contact the district office for more information.
Additionally, Beat reminded listeners about regulations for manure application, particularly in the Western Lake Erie Basin, where spreading on frozen or saturated ground is prohibited. He advised farmers to consult the district for guidance if they face storage issues.
The Crawford Soil and Water District office is located at 3111 State Route 98 in Bucyrus, next to Producers and the Ag Credit building.
