BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford County History Alliance and the Crawford Park District are partnering to plant a white oak tree to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The ceremony will take place Friday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. at Heckert Nature Preserve.

The Crawford County History Alliance, a group formed in 2022 to promote collaboration among historical organizations, has been designated by the county commissioners to lead local America 250 events. Randy Fischer of the History Alliance said the Heckert Nature Preserve, located on State Route 19, was chosen for its central location.

The event will include a brief program, followed by a guided hike led by a park naturalist. Lori Morey from the Crawford Park District noted the preserve’s rich history and diverse ecosystem. The tree planting is the first of several events the alliance plans to host leading up to 2026.
