BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Bucyrus Little Theatre (BLT) is set to open the satirical cult classic, Bat Boy: The Musical, with a high-tech modern twist.

The show, based on the infamous early ’90s Weekly World News tabloid story about a bat-child found in a West Virginia cave, runs for two weekends: Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26.

Director and main sponsor, Scott Leon Smith of Monster Vox Productions, is utilizing full-screen projections for scenery, 90s tributes, and “Hollywood monster movie schlock,” describing the show as “tabloid obsession meets… the X-Men.” The musical blends a variety of genres, from Broadway to gospel, while poking fun at the genre.

Show times have been adjusted to accommodate local high school homecomings, with Saturday performances (Oct. 18 and 25) changing to 2 p.m. matinees. The production contains mature themes and is recommended for mature audiences.
