BUCYRUS — Two mothers of Bucyrus High School seniors joined forces and enlisted the help of other parents to create memories for their children after their senior year was abruptly cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Julie Dye Pace and Melanie Thacker said they want to do everything they can to make these last few weeks of the school year as special as they for the Bucyrus High School Class of 2020.
“We put in a lot of manhours into collecting as many kids’ pictures that we could,” Thacker said. “Out of the 93 seniors, we were able to obtain 88 photos. Julie Pace and I made posters and decorated the windows at Wendy’s and have also decorated window’s at Lulu’s Kitchen.”

She said Kim Stamper, owner of Lulu’s, has been very supportive, even though her own children attend school at Wynford.
“Computer Guru also decorated their window with our seniors’ pictures,” Pace said.
They said they were inspired to do the work for Bucyrus seniors to help ensure the students will have the best scenario possible despite the restrictions brought on by COVID-19.

The BHS administration recently announced that, along with graduation plans, each senior will be given two tickets free of charge to the BHS 2021 prom and each graduating senior will receive an individualized graved brick paver to be placed on the sidewalk leading to the victory bell at Bucyrus Elementary School.
Pace said a fellow parent, Kim Kent, painted the rock in front of the high school to honor the class of 2020.
“It was still decorated for basketball season. Kim painted it to honor the graduating class as it is a tradition at the school,” Pace said.
Thacker said their group of senior parents ordered and paid for signs through donations that will placed in the yards of every Bucyrus High School senior to show support.
“We thank Bucyrus Blitz Custom Vinyl for helping us get them. They will be placed in the yards on May 15 or before if we get them sooner,” Thacker said. “We received a donation for them from Computer Guru and if anyone wants to donate, they can contact as we would also like to try to give our kids a ‘prom’ or some sort of celebration when we are able to. Anything is appreciated.”
Pace and Thacker both said the seniors enjoyed the Lights Out event that all the schools participated in a few weeks ago but want to continue to provide the seniors with as many extras as they can.
Bucyrus’ graduation, along with six others, will be broadcasted on Iconic Rock Q92.7 WQEL and WQEL.com. Bucyrus’ graduation is set for June 26 at 7 p.m.
