UPPER SANDUSKY—An entire community is rallying to support the family and friends of Keris Dilgard Riebel
Riebel, a 2019 graduate of Wynford High School, is being remembered as a light to all who knew her.
A tribute was posted Monday on the Wynford Royals Facebook page that read:
Wynford Local Schools extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Keris Dilgard Riebel, Wynford Class of 2019. Keris was a beautiful soul with a faith-filled heart. She exuded genuine kindness to everyone she met, and her smile was unforgettable. Keris was taken way too soon and will forever live in the hearts of the Wynford Community. Please lift up all of her family and friends in your thoughts during this devastating time.
Wynford Local Schools will have support in place for any student or staff members that need it as school resumes tomorrow.
It is not known if Riebel knew her assailant. Twenty-seven-year-old Bethel Bekele remains in custody on a charge of murder, with additional charges likely.
Bekele surrendered at the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.
Riebel was married last October. She recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.
Upper Sandusky Police Chief Jared Lucas said:
“Bekele entered the store with the machete and approached Riebel. He struck her numerous times with the machete.”
Other people were in the store at the time of the attack. The machete was left behind.
A Gofundme page has been set up to assist the family with expenses:
