The Bucyrus Food Services Department is taking a little different approach to serving meals to Bucyrus Elementary students this winter. The procedures will be the same, but the faces will be different. On Jan. 22, Bucyrus Police Chief David Koepke and Bucyrus Fire Chief Jay Keller will bear the lunch service aprons and will be Serving Up Smiles during lunch at Bucyrus Elementary.
“I think this is going to be a great opportunity for our students to meet people they may only see if they have an emergency or get in trouble at school,” Food Services Manager Lorie Pennington said. “We want our children to know that these individuals are here to help them and that they (individuals serving) want to see our students be successful.”
In addition to the special guest servers, students will have opportunities to win prizes each day and will be treated to special decorations throughout the lunchroom.
“I want to personally thank Chief Koepke and Chief Keller for taking time from their busy schedules to spend a few hours with our Elementary students,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “It’s important for our district to maintain a healthy, working relationship with our partners from the City, and this event helps to foster that strong bond.”
