BUCYRUS—The Investigation Report pertaining to a Bucyrus couple engaged in inappropriate activities with two separate dogs has been obtained by Crawford County Now.

Dakota Commodore

According to the report, on August 14th, two detectives questioned Dakota Commodore, who was under police custody due to alleged probation violations. Initially uncertain about the purpose of the conversation, Commodore later inquired if it was related to the content on his phone. Subsequently, he admitted to creating videos and participating in inappropriate actions involving two dogs that reportedly belonged to his girlfriend. Co-defendant Katlyn Burkett from Bucyrus was also implicated in the report.

Dakota acknowledged the wrongdoing of his actions but went on to assert that the dogs were not harmed in any way. He expressed a preference for discovering his girlfriend’s involvement with a dog rather than another adult male, contending that this would eliminate concerns about sexually transmitted diseases, the report detailed. Commodore further explained to investigators that these actions were influenced by Burkett’s methamphetamine use, and he justified his participation as a means to maintain their relationship.

On August 16th, Katlyn Burkett, who had been arrested the previous night in connection to the case, was interviewed by investigators. She corroborated her involvement in inappropriate conduct with the dogs, estimating around three instances. Burkett informed the officers that her participation was coerced by Dakota and that she felt compelled to comply to avoid physical harm. Katlyn further explained that this was why she remained in the relationship for an extended period—Dakota held the threat of exposing the videos over her, indicating that he would reveal her actions if she chose to leave, the report outlined.

Katlyn Burkett pleaded not guilty to three charges of engaging in inappropriate conduct with animals. In contrast, Dakota Commodore pleaded guilty to the same charges and is currently serving a jail sentence. The two dogs, both of medium size—one brown and the other brown and white—are owned by Burkett. The report mentioned that one of the dogs was surrendered to the Humane Society, while the other is under the care of a relative.

Crawford County Now contacted the Director of the Humane Society of Crawford County who could not comment on the case.
