CRESTLINE — Ohio School Boards Association member Steve Horton met with members of the Crestline community Wednesday evening to discuss what they would like to see in the next superintendent.
When asked what issues and opportunities the superintendent would face, the two community members who attended said that one problem is the number of students who live in the district but have decided to attend other schools.
They would like to see this changed over the coming years, as they would like the superintendent to find a way to instill pride back into the school and community.
They said they also would also like for there to be a crisis plan either developed or modified, and that the new superintendent should be able to handle any crisis that may arise.
Next, the members were asked what their expectations were for the district’s next leader. They said they wanted the new superintendent to be able to have a strong, working relationship with teachers and students to help better the school. They also want this person to be able to take charge and make a decision that is in the best interest of the school district, even if it is not the most popular decision.
They would like this person to be passionate, as they said this is more than just a 7-3 job, it is an all-the-time thing.
They also made it known that they don’t want a micromanager, because that can be problematic for everyone.
Community members said it is ideal that the next superintendent also have ties to the community so that they have a better understanding on what goes on, instead of someone from a big city who has no idea who or what Crestline is.
The closing date for applications for Crestline’s next superintendent is March 22.
