Press release
The Community Foundation for Crawford County is once again holding its annual Match Day fundraiser in conjunction with #GivingTuesday. The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days synonymous with holiday shopping. During only its third year in 2014, #GivingTuesday trended on Twitter 11 hours and $35 million of the total $45.68 million raised was raised on line.
“We are again holding our annual Match Day on #GivingTuesday,” explained Lisa Workman, the Foundation’s President. “Since so much of the success of #GivingTuesday revolves around using social media to raise funds, we are inviting Crawford County to join our virtual party! On December 1st, we’d like to see everyone go to https://tcf4cc.givecorps.com/. From that site, you may easily create your own fundraising page and use the templates provided to email your contacts for donations, or post your request on Facebook. And on that date, our foundation’s Board has agreed to match up to $25,000 to the agencies, schools and scholarship funds for whom the dollars are being raised!”
Justin McMullen, Foundation Board member and Chair of their Development Committee, also noted the simplicity and ease of participating. “We are all in touch with old friends and classmates who are from Crawford County but don’t reside here anymore. What better potential pool of donors for us all to ask to give back to Crawford County, the community that raised them?”
In addition to social media, collection sites for checks and cash will be set up all day at the Foundation’s office at 254 E. Mansfield St. in Bucyrus, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cranberry Hills Grill & Pub in New Washington, Kroger’s in Bucyrus, Geyer’s in Galion and the library in Crestline. McMullen added that any checks need to be dated December 1st in order to count towards Match Day.
In 2014, The Community Foundation for Crawford County contributed over $400,000 in gifts, grants and scholarships right here in Crawford County. From the Crawford Success Center where we can take college courses, to the school funds held by each of our six Crawford County schools, to the murals in downtown Bucyrus, the many projects the Foundation helps fund enrich the lives of us all.
We all participate in Black Friday and Cyber Monday; now let’s help The Community Foundation for Crawford County get fired up on Match Day/#Giving Tuesday! Share on social media! Join our virtual party!
