BUCYRUS — The Bucyrus City Council Joint Committees meeting met Monday evening, and heard from Max Miller of The Bucyrus Tourism and Visitors Bureau’s Board of Directors.
Miller spoke about bus tours he has had where attendees may travel and look at historical buildings or places, A tour group from Wisconsin stopped in Bucyrus about a month ago.
Miller said there are 27 places in Crawford County on the National Register of Historic Places he would like for people to explore and learn about. He said an example of something people could learn is that Crawford County has ties to Johnny Appleseed.
Miller hopes to get a culinary tour put together someday.
Miller is a Bucyrus and Ohio State University alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in communication technology and a master’s degree in recreation park and tourism administration from Western Illinois University.
He spent two years with the Peace Corps in Cameroon, Africa until coming back to Bucyrus.
The next speaker was Gary Frankhouse, the Executive and Economic Development Director with the Crawford Partnership.
Frankhouse spoke to council about doing a study conducted by Danter & Associates, which will investigate the housing needs of Galion, Bucyrus, and potentially Crestline.
The specifics of the study would be to see what kind of housing is needed to attract business to the communities. The study will investigate the needs of various residential housing alternatives such as single-family, apartments and condos.
In a course of eight weeks, the study will look at specifics like lot and home prices, absorption rate, lot sizes, number of units, purchase price and square footage amongst many other things to determine what will be best to attract more people to live in Bucyrus.
The finance committee agreed with doing the survey.
Council’s next meeting is Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. and the next joint committees meeting is Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. at Bucyrus City Hall.
