BUCYRUS — A special council meeting has been scheduled after the finance committee passed legislation during the Bucyrus City Council Joint Committee meeting Thursday evening.
The legislation needs to be voted on by council by Feb. 1.
The issue involves the North Sandusky Avenue project although Council President Sis Love said the current legislation does not include a proposed bike lane.
The project is being done with the Ohio Department of Transportation and needs to include a part of Ohio 4 North from Quaker Road (Ohio 19 and 100) to an area near the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is approximately a quarter of a mile of roadway.
City Service Safety Director Jeff Wagner said the paving on Ohio 4, south of town, was estimated to cost $400,000 but came in at $206,000, while the North Sandusky Avenue piece was estimated at $175,000 for the city’s share but came in at $212,668.
“We still have a net savings of $75,000,” Wagner said.
The issues need to be voted on by Feb. 1, but the next regular council meeting is not until Feb. 5. The special meeting is Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
The Economic Development Committee passed legislation to be voted on at the next regular council meeting to appoint Robert Thiel to another six-year term on the city’s planning commission while the Health and Safety Committee passed legislation for a mutual aid agreement between the Bucyrus Fire Department and Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service for coverage in Liberty and Bucyrus townships.
“It is for back-up only in those townships,” Bucyrus Fire Department Captain Chad Schwemley said.
The platting committee approved legislation to be brought before council for bids in late February or early March for a new sewer line in the Highland, Union and Failor Avenue area as part of the second phase of the sewer/storm water ongoing project.
The public lands and buildings committee approved legislation for farmland bids for the 135 acres of farmland the city owns that abuts city properties near Krauter Road, the airport and other locations.
The finance committee approved legislation for several appropriations, reimbursements and an amendment in the amount of grant money for the Bucyrus Fire Department to purchase new equipment.
