BUCYRUS — Bucyrus City Council members attended a joint committee meeting Thursday evening, their first since taking their oaths of office.
The issue of dumpsters in city parking lots was a much-debated topic.
Bruce Truka, chair of the public lands and buildings committee, said he did his own inspection in the city parking lot located behind the Crazy Fox Saloon and Dillinger’s Event Center.
“There are several dumpsters taking up valuable parking spaces and there is an open one that is full of oil,” Truka said. “There is also a trailer that has been parked in the same spot for so long that there is a ring of rust that has formed on the ground.”
The issue of selling the parking lot was on the table a few months ago but was voted down. It was decided that the committee will invite the business owners to the next meeting to discuss the issue.

Recycling was a topic of discussion for the service committee and it was also decided more information was needed. Council members had questions about revisiting curbside recycling pickup. The manager of the county’s recycling program, Brian Rockwell, will be asked to come to the next meeting. Rockwell is also the owner of the Crazy Fox Saloon.
The economic development committee voted to appoint both Bucyrus Council President Kurt Fankhauser and council member Kevin Myers to the Central Joint Ambulance District Board and will be appointing others to various subcommittees at the next committee meeting.
Appropriations to the contractual services and capital outlay in the sewage disposal operations and maintenance fund were approved by the finance committee for legislation to be created for council to vote on at the next regular council meeting Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
