The roof on the Youth Building at the Crawford County Fairgrounds may have to weather another season before being repaired.
During the Crawford County Senior Fair Board meeting Wednesday night, Tom Laughbaum reported that the Crawford County commissioners responded back to the fair board’s request for money to help fix the roof that has leaks. According to Laughbaum’s report, Crawford County Commissioner Doug Weisenauer said that the commissioners would not be able to help with extra monies that would go toward the grant replacing the roof.
With money from the commissioners out as an option for the time being, the fair board discussed other methods of raising the monies needed to cover the matching grant for the repairs, but didn’t approve any of the options given.

The fair board approved allowing the weighing animals off the trailer at the committees’ discretion for the 2017 Crawford County Fair. The original motion to allow the weighing off the trailer for this year at the fair failed by a 10 to 6 vote.
The fair will be getting a new set of scales to weigh the animals after the fair board approved the Livestock Committee purchase of a large scale from Brechbuhler Scales in Mansfield. The estimate from Brechbuhler Scales was the lowest cost at $8,336 with an additional $500 for a printer.
The fair board passed a measure allowing bumps at the window during the livestock sale at the fair. A “bump at the window” is when another business or person would like to give extra money to help the Junior Fair exhibitor selling the animal, without purchasing the animal outright, by giving the money at the payment window during the sale.
Don Frombaugh asked to rescind the motion made during the March meeting for repairs to all of the poultry barn doors. Frombaugh noted upon inspection of the building that two of the doors were under five years of age and didn’t need to be replaced. However, the east and west side doors still needed to be replaced. The new motion to fix the two side doors was approved.
With numerous donations to the fairgrounds throughout the years the fair board elected to allow a Timken’s employee discount for this year’s fair. Timken employees are allowed to purchase up to seven single day passes to the 2016 Crawford County Fair with $1 discounted on each ticket. The passes can only be purchased at the Crawford County Senior Fair Board Office.
With contract disputes still not settled from last year’s fair, the fair board opted not to allow JCJ Amusements to camp at the fairgrounds during the Bratwurst Festival.
The next Crawford County Senior Fair Board meeting will be held at 8 p.m. on May 25 in the Youth Building.
