BUCYRUS — The Crawford County Board of Commissioners took just eight minutes in a public hearing to deny a petition to annex land in Jackson Township into the Village of Crestline.
A petition for annexation was submitted Nov. 14. The land submitted was listed as 152.3 acres on Middletown Road near Ohio 61 and U.S. 30.
At the meeting, Crawford County Clerk Barb Leuthold informed the commissioners, since the original file date, no other deadlines were met by the landowners or the acting agent for the landowners.
Items needing completed included notification to involved municipalities and neighboring land owners, adoption by the receiving municipality to receive the land and proper notification in the local media.
The commissioners examined a report by Crawford County Engineer Mark Baker. The report listed four errors on the petition, which included:
- The petition and resolution state 152.3 acres to be annexed, but the Annexation Plat states 166.029.
- Parcel No. 23-00-05357.001 owned by Todd and Kelly Schroeder Farms LLC is missing from the petition but is listed as an adjacent parcel.
- The owners’ signatures were not notarized on the Annexation Plat.
- Crestline Village Clerk of Council has not signed the Annexation Plat.
Leuthold said the commissioners technically had 30 days to make a decision.
Commissioner Doug Weisenauer said the board did not need to spend any more time on the issue since the proper information was not provided.
He said the petitioners would need to start the process over if they still wished for the annexation to occur. He added the process did not require listing the reason for the desired annexation.
Jackson Township Trustee Robert White also attended the hearing.
