The 2015 graduating class of Galion High School will receive their diplomas in the High School gymnasium at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015. A total of 124 Galion seniors will be moving on to the next stage of their lives.
“We are very proud of the many outstanding achievements of our graduating seniors,” High School Principal Ron Williams said. “These students have shared their time and talents, and have left an indelible mark on our school and the district.”
A select group of students receiving special recognition will be those who qualify to receive the prestigious Ohio Department of Education Honors Diploma. In order to receive this high level diploma, students must meet the following requirements:
• 4 units of Honors English
• 4 units of College Preparatory math
• 4 units of science, including physics and chemistry
• 4 units of social studies
• 3 units of foreign language
• 1 unit of fine arts
• Achieve proficiency benchmark for Ohio Career-Technical Competency Assessment
• Cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher
• 27 on the ACT or 1210 on the SAT
The graduation speaker for this year’s ceremony is Galion alumna Colleen Conry. Colleen is an attorney with the prestigious Ropes & Gray law firm in the Washington, D.C. office. Conry serves as co-leader of the firm’s Government Enforcement group, focusing her practice on white-collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Colleen served as a Senior Litigation Counsel in the Fraud Section of the Criminal Division in the United States Department of Justice. Prior to serving in the Criminal Division, Colleen served for seven years in the Commercial Litigation Branch of the Civil Division where she tried multiple cases involving claims against the government in excess of $3 billion. Colleen, a 1980 Galion graduate, was a member of the inaugural class of the Galion City School District Hall of Fame in 2009.
“Graduation is an exciting time for students, parents and our entire school district,” Superintendent Mark Stefanik said. “We could not be more proud and appreciative of this group of seniors for the leadership they have displayed throughout their careers, and the lasting impact they have had on the entire Galion City School District. I want to personally congratulate each member of this graduating class and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”
