Now that we have Halloween and October out of the way, it’s time to see what other fall goodness can be found here in Crawford County. Trust us, there are always plenty of events!

Football Playoffs

IT’S FOOTBALL TIME! Pardon us, we got a little excited – football playoffs are one of our favorite times of the year. The teams are top-notch, the games are hard-hitting, and the fans are the best. There are two county teams heading into week 11 of high school football: perennial contender Wynford and never-say-die Colonel Crawford. Seneca East is the only other N10 team to make it into the playoffs.

buckeye-central-vs-wynford-16The Royals are facing off against Gibsonburg (8-2) Friday night while the Eagles will have a long haul to Henry County to take on Liberty Center (8-2).

Make a note: all games start at 7:30 p.m. And we have a special surprise just for you: we’ll be broadcasting the Royals’ game on WQEL 92.7FM and the Eagles’ game on WBCO 107.5FM and www.wqel.com. Double the football fun! Plus, don’t miss out on our awesome photo galleries.

LET’S GO ROYALS AND EAGLES! WOOO!

Bird Events at Crawford Park District

The Park District is going to the birds the weekend of Nov. 4. That Friday will be a saw-whet owl presentation at 6:30 p.m. Those are the tiny, adorable things you may see traveling south during the fall and winter.

Owl banding 2014 mainBob Placier, who has banded saw-whet owls for 13 years, will have a presentation and visitors will get to help check the mist nets in hopes of catching some of the nocturnal flyers. Between the net checks there will be a craft and small bonfire.

That Saturday (8 a.m. – 1 p.m.) get ready to help band birds in order to get some insight into the local bird populations.

Community Care March

If there’s anywhere you should be on the morning of Nov. 5 it should be in downtown Bucyrus for the Community Care March. This is the annual event that brings the fight against drugs in our communities right out in the open.

2015 Community Care March 03This will be the sixth year for the Community Care March and those in charge have decided to switch it up a bit. It began in 2011 with hundreds of people marching down Sandusky Avenue in order to bring awareness and show support for those who are addicted. This year will also feature the annual march (it starts at Bucyrus Community Hospital at 9 a.m.) and will have Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser, Police Chief Dave Koepke, EMT Corey Wright, and former addict Josh Spears speak at Bucyrus City Hall.

Colors of an Ohio Fall

Whether you’d rather have a glass of wine or a paintbrush in your hand (prefer both? Then you definitely need to hit this up), the Colors of an Ohio Fall event is where you need to be on the weekend of Nov. 11. The Crawford County Arts Council (it’s getting support from the Ohio Arts Council) is hosting the three-day event, which kicks off at 1803 Taproom in Galion for a wine and beer tasting from 7 – 9 p.m.

(Advanced tickets are suggested so make sure to get yours!)

The great thing about this initial event (other than the fact that you get to taste the awesome drinks at 1803)? It’s that you get a meet and greet and presentation by artist Christopher Leeper, who will be holding a watercolor workshop on Nov. 12 and 13. That workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Crawford County Partnership Building (117 E. Masfield St., Bucyrus).

Tickets are available at the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce and 1803 Taproom, or by calling Sandy Laipply at 419-562-9825.

Baconfest

Bacon. You greasy, fatty, deceptively delicious meaty mongrel. I love you.

Everything tastes better with bacon. You know, we know it. It’s a staple. It’s in our DNA. Which is why North Central Ohio Media Group (which is a fancy way of saying your favorite claudia and ticketslocal radio stations WQEL and WBCO, and your much-beloved Crawford County Now) is makin’ bacon for the first-ever Bucyrus Baconfet. From 6 – 9 p.m. on Nov. 12 at The Pickwick Place, patrons will get to partake in bacon sampling and enjoy creations from local vendors.

How can you get in? Well, make sure to pick up $10 tickets at WQEL before Nov. 12 (otherwise there are $15 at the door). Kids six and under get in free.

Some of our favorite things that will be there? Maple and bacon flavored ice cream from Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream and maple bacon cupcakes from A Sweet Touch of Ginger.

Did we mention that your ticket will enter you to win a Harley Davidson Motorcycle from Specialty Services Motor Ranch?
