You say there’s nothing to do in this county? Well, sit right down, kiddos, and let us point out some of the best things happening in Crawford County this month.

Community Care March
This year marks the fifth annual Community Care March and, having made the rounds at Galion, Crestline, and New Washington, it returns to Bucyrus on Nov. 7. The march is the community’s way to show support and join in the fight against drugs. The march begins at 9 a.m. at the Bucyrus Community Hospital parking lot and will proceed to Good Hope Lutheran Church on West Charles Street. Special guest speakers include Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser; Jody community-care-march-18Demo-Hodgins, Executive Director of Crawford-Marion ADAMH Board; Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent; and the police chiefs from Bucyrus, Galion, Crestline, and New Washington.

“I covered the Community Care March in its inaugural year in Bucyrus. One the most amazing moments was seeing hundreds of people streaming down the hill on North Sandusky Avenue as they walked toward the courthouse. All of these people came together to fight against the drug epidemic that hit our community. It would be wonderful to see that many people stand up again and say, ‘Not in our county.’” – Krystal

Football Playoff Games
There’s just something about a high school playoff game: the possibility of home field Wynford football 12advantage, the come-from-behind wins, the fans’ anticipation, the freezing-your-fingers-and-toes-off-but-you-still-won’t-leave-until-the-clock-says-zero feeling, and, yes even the heartbreaking losses.

High school football playoffs begin Nov. 6. Right now, Wynford and Colonel Crawford have already clinched spots and will play on Saturday, Nov. 7. Galion and Buckeye Central may have a chance, and if they do get in they’ll play on Friday night.

EDIT: Wynford, Colonel Crawford, and Galion will be moving on to the playoffs. Galion will travel to Edison on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game start. Wynford plays at home against Delta at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Colonel Crawford will also be at home, same time and date, versus Ayersville. All three games will be on either WQEL 92.7FM or wqel.com. Also expect photo galleries from each game.

Nature Hike

The Crawford Park District always has events going on at all their parks but this one may be an area that locals don’t always think about as they drive by. Daughmer Savannah is located at 786 Marion-Melmore Rd. and was purchased by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in 2011. It is the largest and best preserved remnant of the unplowed, deep soil prairies and savannahs that were once present in the easternmost part of America’s prairie. The SanduskyDaughmer Prairie 07-06-13 Plains once covered 192,000 acres across Crawford, Wyandot, and Marion counties but have been reduced to less than 75 acres.

Daughmer puts on a colorful show in November with its prairie grass and the last of the insects are active. The open country birds find plenty of food during this season.

Hikers should meet CPD Naturalist Warren Uxley at the Daughmer parking lot at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8.

To find out more about the Daughmer Prairie Savannah Nature Preserve, visit the Crawford Park District’s website.
