Colonel Crawford will update its bus fleet after the district’s Board of Education approved the purchase of two new school buses.
The two 72-passenger buses, which are being purchased through Mansfield Truck Sales and Service Inc., will be in service to the school within 90 days. The buses will cost $82,842 each, but Superintendent Todd Martin explained to the board he was trying to get an additional discount.
“Originally we had budgeted for one bus this year,” Martin said. “But we had an increase from the state for $79,000 in transportation.”
Colonel Crawford approved a new policy that would put an EpiPen in each wing of the school. The Non-Individual Specific Epinephrine Auto Injector Policy was suggested by the health department. The policy also calls for onsite trained personnel to administer the EpiPen treatment.
The school board also approved the renewal of the Facility Service Agreement with Brewer-Garrett for the amount of $23,616. The contract provides maintenance for the pumps, air handling units, hot water boiler, atmospheric boilers, air-cooled chiller, heating and cooling rooftop units, furnace, freezer/cooler condenser, computer room unit VAV box, and VAV box with reheat. The price is up from last year’s $22,980 agreement; however, Martin explained that their service was top of the line.
“We had a hot waterline break in the basement, they were came here within a week, had it fixed and were gone in no time, and we didn’t miss a beat,” Martin said.
Included in Treasurer Vickey Stump’s report and recommendations was approval of the payment of $12,105 to Hocking College for 2015. Stump noted that the payment increased from last year due to more Colonel Crawford students taking college credits through the university.
Board members approved all other items on the agenda including the first reading on the adoption of new policies recommended by the OSBA. These policies include cooperative education programs, evaluation of professional staff (OTES 2013-2014 and 2015-2016 data and OPES), remedial instruction on reading skill assessment for grades k-3, and guidelines for the promotion and retention of students.
Athletic Director Dave Sheldon gave recognition to varsity football head coach Ryan Teglovic for being the first coach in the school’s history to reach 10 wins in a season, the school’s first playoff victory, and being named the N-10 and North Central Ohio Football Coaches Association Coach of the year. Teglovic thanked Sheldon and the board.
“I appreciate the coach’s words, and your support,” Teglovic said. “This is a great place to be.”
Lunch Service Coordinator Kerri Wilhite gave an update on Colonel Crawford’s current lunch program. During her report Wilhite said that the school’s lunch program had seen a six percent daily participation increase over the last few months. Wilhite noted that the increase had generated an increase of $9,000 to $15,000 and as a result the past two months have generated profit.
Wilhite said that she hopes that the trend can continue. Also during her report Whilhite explained she was trying to figure how to increase the school’s breakfast program.
“It will be a process,” Wilhite said. “I need to find more accurate numbers before presenting the plan.”
The December Colonel Crawford school board meeting has been moved back to 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the William and Hannah Crawford Library due to the Colonel Crawford/Mansfield Christian varsity boys’ basketball game.
