NORTH ROBINSON—This month, the Colonel Crawford Lions Club honored three students of the month and this year’s peace poster winners.
The theme of this year’s peace poster contest was ‘Lead with Compassion.’
In the contest, the posters are taken to the high school art classes, where they are judged by students within the class.
This year’s winners were Meadow Achberger, Layni Rush, and Annabelle Harris.
Annabelle, daughter of Kelly and Ryan Ely, came in third in the competition. She is eleven years old, enjoys drawing, making, and editing YouTube videos, and her favorite thing about Colonel Crawford is the teachers.
“I did my poster the night before it was due, and it is a mom showing her son to care for the earth,” Annabelle said.
Layni, daughter of Shani Rush, came in second in the competition. She is twelve years old, enjoys playing basketball, hanging out with her friends, and her favorite things about Crawford are her teachers and friends.
“The candles represent the wax dripping on to the smaller candles to help them grow even larger so they can last longer to show how you can show compassion,” Layni said.
Meadow, daughter of Roman Achberger, won first place in the competition. She is eleven years old. She enjoys karate, basketball, swimming, cooking, and baking.
Meadow said that to her, peace meant everyone getting along in the world and being happy.
“There are four different flags representing everyone and all the different countries working together and coming together and being happy together,” Meadow said.
Meadow’s poster will get sent to the district governor, and then it will be sent on to Columbus to be judged.
All winners received a check and a commemorative certificate.
For the student of the month, staff members vote on the students each month of the school year.
Maria Smith, daughter of Toby and Amy Smith, is the October student of the month.
She is the president of the LEO Club and a member of the National Honor Society, student council, and YoungLife. Outside of school, Maria is a member of the Dairy Maids & Gents, where she served as president, a member of the Crawford County junior fair board, and a member of Bucyrus Holy Trinity, where she is active in the youth group.
She is undecided as to where she will attend college but plans to major in early childhood education.
