NORTH ROBINSON, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Colonel Crawford Lions Club has recognized two outstanding seniors as Students of the Month for November 2024 and January 2025.
November 2024: Carley Zender
Carley Zender, daughter of Cory and Monica Zender, has been named the Colonel Crawford Lions Club Student of the Month for November 2024. A senior at Colonel Crawford High School, Miss Zender serves as the President of the National Honor Society and the Secretary of the Leo Club, actively participating in numerous service projects. Her school involvement extends to memberships in FCCLA and FFA, and she has been a dedicated participant in the school’s basketball program since third grade.
An avid equestrian, Carley has been riding horses since the age of six and currently owns six horses, showing them since she was nine. She is a member of the Young Riders 4-H Club and has received the Kevin F. Ruth Award. Her achievements include placing in the Skillathon and qualifying for the State Fair with her horses for the past two years.
Carley is also a member of Bucyrus United Methodist Church and its youth group. She plans to attend either Heidelberg University or the University of Findlay in the fall, where she will major in pharmacy or radiology.
January 2025: Ashtyn Rickel
Ashtyn Rickel, daughter of Scott and Kristin Rickel, has been named the Colonel Crawford Lions Club Student of the Month for January 2025. A senior at Colonel Crawford High School, Miss Rickel serves as the Secretary of the National Honor Society, participates in Academic Challenge, and has consistently earned the All A’s Academic Award each year. She also secured 2nd place in the Ohio Math League Competition.
Miss Rickel is a cheerleader, a member of Vision, Leo Club, FCCLA, and a student leader for Young Life, engaging in various community projects with these groups. She has won numerous awards in swimming competitions at the local, district, and state levels. For the past three years, Ashtyn has worked as a lifeguard at Colonel Crawford and during the summer at the Heck Law Office. She also provides private swimming lessons and serves as a substitute lifeguard for women’s aerobics at Colonel Crawford.
Ashtyn attends First Congregational Church in Mansfield, where she assists with children’s activities. She plans to attend Malone University, majoring in Elementary Education, and will join the university’s Division 2 swim team. After graduation, she hopes to teach K-2 and continue as a swim coach.
Both students and their parents were honored guests at the Colonel Crawford Lions Club’s January dinner meeting, where they received commemorative certificates and checks for one hundred dollars each.
