NORTH ROBINSON—On Monday evening, the Colonel Crawford board of education held their monthly meeting.
With the shift in administration positions at the last board meeting, the vacant spot for next school year’s high school principal has been filled.
Michael Voll, who has spent twenty-three years in education, was selected as the man for the job.
“I think it’s important that you recognize the wonderful students within the district, and that’s something that definitely attracted me. Also, the staff and administration are all superb. For me, it’s the people that I can blend with, with all the great people here. In terms of myself, I truly believe that I’ll be a hard worker, I want to build strong relationships with the students, the staff, and the community – I want to continue the excellence of Colonel Crawford and make sure that we’re always putting students first,” Voll said of what he hopes for out of his upcoming tenure.
Voll graduated with his bachelor and masters from Bowling Green State University and has worked at Marion Elgin, Wynford, and Wapakoneta. Throughout his career, Voll has been a physical education and health teacher and served four years as an administrator at Marion Elgin.
Former Colonel Crawford board of education member and current county commissioner, Tim Ley, spoke to the board and asked for their support in the upcoming election, as he is looking to be reelected.
Ley touched on the recent mailers sent out seeking for support in his reelection that are sponsored by American Energy Action Fund, were not approved by him, nor was he aware of them at all.
Ley also spoke on his contributions to the county over his tenure, including getting eight million dollars for the county to be spent on sewer or water lines. Water lines will be going out to Sulphur Springs, around the landfill, and out to Oceola. Galion will receive 1.2 million dollars to replace aging parts on the water plant, and Crestline will receive one million dollars to take water to Leesville and down to Lake Galion. The money must be used by 2024.
After nineteen seasons with the Lady Eagles basketball program, the board officially accepted Coach Kyle Fenner’s resignation.
Fenner coached the team from 1996 to 2006, then again from 2013-2022. Fenner leaves the program with two hundred and seventy-seven wins.
During the business portion of the meeting, when Roger Haas, who has been a bus driver for the district for close to fifty years, was approved as a retire-rehire again, Mr. Martin told the board how over the weekend, when the Mill Creek Nursing home in Galion caught on fire, Haas called and asked if he could take a bus to help evacuate residents.
Both Haas and head mechanic Dusty McAdow took buses over to help get the seniors at Mill Creek to safety.
The board’s next meeting is May 23 at 7 p.m.
