The old Colonel Crawford building will be getting some improvements to reprieve the building from some of its heat after a special Board of Education meeting Monday.

The Colonel Crawford Board of Education unanimously approved contracts with Kinn Brothers, Inc. for $24,550 and Kiess Electric for $5,950 for the installation of cooling units in the Colonel Crawford North building.

Colonel Crawford Superintendent Todd Martin explained the reason for going to AC in the building to the board.

“One thing we didn’t expect with this project was the glass collecting the heat in the building,” Martin said.  “It is scorching by the end of the day, and just doesn’t cool down overnight and is still scorching at the beginning. There is just no reprieve from the heat.”

The air conditioning units, which are Mitsubishi brand, will be mounted to the outside of the building. The project won’t cover for cooling in the gym, which will be bid out at a later date.

“By next year we will really like the way it feels in there,” Martin added.

Prior to the approval of the bid Martin updated the board on the progress of the football stadium renovations.

“Things are coming along, we hit a snag with a few things not coming in on time,” Martin said. “We won’t be cutting a check until everything is finished right. The handicap addition to the bleachers should be finishing up tonight.”

After the meeting members of the board went to the football field to view the work in progress.

The next Colonel Crawford Board of Education Meeting will be on Tuesday, August 23. The meeting will open with a community meeting at 6 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
