MANSFIELD—The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will play host to the 5th annual Grand Challenge Race on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. North Central State College and its partnering schools’ engineering technology students will be showcasing their capstone projects by driving the electric vehicles they built around the famous course.

The day will begin with the Electronic Vehicle Races at 9 a.m., followed by the Autonomous Vehicle Races at 10 a.m., and the Experimental Vehicle Races at 12 p.m. An Awards Ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. to recognize the winning teams.

Over the course of the year, the teams have been designing and building their vehicles, considering factors such as frame, steering, braking, gearing, power, and drive options to create the optimal combination for performance and energy efficiency.

Partnering schools, include Edison State Community College, Mount Vernon High School, Pioneer Career & Technology Center, and St. Peter’s High School. The students will have the opportunity to showcase their work and test their vehicles’ capabilities on the challenging Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
