Brooks indicated that he played a role in campus ministry to student athletes at each university. Eventually meeting Ken Hasner who spent time pouring into his spiritual life and encouraged him to come on staff with Athletes in Action. About the same time Brooks received a phone call from Dave Wannstedt with the Miami Dolphins telling Brooks that he was leaving the Dolphins to take the Head Coaching Position at the University of Pittsburgh. Coach Wannstedt came to get to know Brooks through a mutual friend and wanted to know if Brooks would come to Pitt to serve as the team Chaplain. Brooks and his wife visited with Coach Wannstedt and his wife Jan for 3 days and spent time with the team. Brooks felt that it was obvious that this is where the Lord was leading them. Eventually Brooks went back to Green Bay and began the process of joining the ministry of Athletes in Action as a full-time missionary. Brooks served at Pitt for 6 years before coming to serve as Chaplain in Cleveland with the Browns.
