BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Crawford County is coming together in a big way this holiday season — and it all started with one local resident whose love for Christmas and animals inspired a mission to make a difference.

Known by many as “Santa Sibs” on Facebook, Mike is a huge Christmas fan who spends every holiday season spreading joy through giveaways, gift cards, and community kindness. This year, he wanted to do something even more meaningful — something that helps the animals at the Crawford County Humane Society while highlighting the heart of our first responders.

That idea became Clear The Shelter, a community project sponsored by first responders across Crawford County, aimed at covering all adoption fees for every cat and dog at the shelter this Christmas.

Why This Matters

When Mike contacted the Humane Society, he learned that adoption fees have increased over time. He reached out to every police and fire department in Crawford County, asking for a modest $150 donation per department. Many departments have already responded with great support.

Even with their help, the rising adoption costs meant additional assistance was needed — so now the community is being invited to join the mission.

The goals are clear:

      •     Cover every pet’s adoption fee for Christmas

      •     Use extra funds to support post-holiday adoptions

      •     Allow the Humane Society to use leftover funds for essential supplies.

Local businesses — including First Federal and Kroger — will have donation boxes available for:

      •     Monetary donations

      •     Pet food and treats

      •     Cleaning supplies

      •     Toys

      •     Blankets and beds

These donations will go directly toward covering adoption fees and providing essential items for the shelter animals.

Any business interested in hosting a donation box is welcome to join the project.
