BUCYRUS — Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser and service-safety director Jeff Wagner released an administration report for the week of April 27-May 1, 2020.
“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Happy May Day! Happy May Day to all those who labor and to those who may be retired from years of labor. We thank you for keeping the tradition of dignified labor alive in our community. From 1821 to the present day, Bucyrus citizens have a reputation for providing a fair day’s work for our employers, and, in return, our employers have been fair to workers—and generous to our community. And speaking of labor, we find ourselves in a challenging situation…many of you have become unemployed or may have your hours reduced. This will pass, so hang in there. Businesses are beginning to open up this month and we hope and pray for a quick return to full employment for all.
We are working on these projects and more now:
- Round two of the Paycheck Protection Program is underway and we have undertaken a joint effort with the Crawford Partnership and the Chamber of Commerce to contact every business to explain the program to them. If you haven’t been contacted please call our office at 562.6767 extension 223 for details.
- Our parks are open with the exception of the Art Park where the foundation for the stage is being installed. Playground equipment and the pool will remain closed until further notice. We are waiting for direction from the Governor’s office regarding athletic leagues. We hope to have a decision made soon.
- Planning for the breaching of the Pines Reservoir and emergency plans for all reservoirs continues.
- Arrowhead Drive reconstruction has begun and we will be putting our 2020 street repaving program out to bid soon. We will be posting the list of streets being repaired on Facebook and our website soon.
- Thank you to Second Harvest for your support of our community this week. Over 700 boxes of food were distributed with the aid of the National Guard and our local safety forces and, of course, the generosity of contributors who make this possible.
- Starting May 1, 2020 all garbage pick-up routes will resume as normal. The Friday pick-up schedules will be on Fridays. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Please consider supporting our non-profits on May 5-6. The Foundation for Crawford County will match your donation up to a total of $25,000 and there is much need right now. Go to: www.cfcrawford.org/ for the important details and please be generous!
We will be back next week but, in the meantime, remember to social distance, wash hands, and #BeKindBucyrus! May God bless us all.
