Steve Sargel of the Bucyrus Fire Department was promoted to captain during a committee meeting of the Bucyrus City Council Tuesday evening, minutes before the regular council meeting began.
“Steve joined the department around 2000, so he has served our community well for nearly two decades,” Mayor Jeff Reser said.
In Reser’s report to council, he also commended world-renowned artist, Eric Grohe, for coming out of retirement to paint a mural at the Schine’s Art Park.
“He would not come out of retirement for just anyone. He loves this town and we are so happy he agreed to do it,” Reser said of Grohe, who is the artist of the Liberty Remembers and Great American Crossroad murals in Bucyrus.
Reser also said the dedication ceremony of the city’s new water treatment plant will be held at noon on September 16, with tours being offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kurt Fankhauser, owner of Wavelinc, asked council to consider a new contract for vertical real estate owned by the city that he uses for his business.
“We have a 10-year contract and that expires in five months,” Fankhauser said.
The issue was referred to the Public Lands and Buildings committee.
Council approved legislation for various appropriations, swimming pool repairs at Aumiller Park and for legal services for labor negotiations.
The next council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on September 19 in Council Chambers at Bucyrus City Hall, 500 S. Sandusky Ave.
