BUCYRUS — Bucyrus City Schools hired a new superintendent during a special Bucyrus Board of Education meeting Saturday morning.
The board hired former Fredericktown superintendent Matthew Chrispin to replace Kevin Kimmel who is taking over as superintendent at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center.
Chrispin was selected from 15 applicants, six semifinalists and two finalists for the position.
Chrispin’s contract begins August 1 and goes through July 31, 2023. Chrispin will be serving on a consultant contract through May 31 to assist in preparing the district for the 2019-20 school year.
“Bucyrus is a great school district and a community that has tremendous pride in its school district and that is what I am familiar with in my time at Fredericktown,” Chrispin said of his decision to apply to Bucyrus. “I was easily attracted to Bucyrus.”
Bucyrus Board of Education President Dr. Paul Johnson, Board President, said that they chose Chrispin because of his knowledge.
“First of all, his experience. Plus, of all the things he’s been involved with in his former districts and at Fredericktown as superintendent,” Johnson said. “He just really stood out to us as the guy to come and lead our district. We are very pleased to have him here.”
Prior to his time at Fredericktown, Chrispin spent a decade as an administrator at Marysville Exempted Village Schools after beginning his education career at Worthington City Schools, according to a release from Bucyrus City Schools.
Bucyrus City Schools is hosting a meet-and-greet reception for Chrispin on May 14 from 4-6 p.m. at the Lincoln Administrative Building at 170 Plymouth Street.
