A Buckeye Central student was killed in a head-on collision in Seneca County Thursday morning.

The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene just after 6 a.m.

Seventeen-year-old Bryce Lutz, of Chatfield, was traveling on Ohio 100 when he went left of center and collided head-on with a vehicle traveling southbound. The accident occurred near Gillig Road outside of Melmore in Eden Township.

Lutz was transported to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center by medical helicopter where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the other vehicle, 57-year-old John Gegorski of Fremont, was treated at Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital for incapacitating injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time.

The crash remains under investigation.
