CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—One man was hospitalized Monday morning following a multi-vehicle chain-reaction crash on US 30 that triggered a vehicle fire and stalled westbound traffic for several hours.

Emergency crews from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson Township Fire Department were first dispatched to the scene near State Route 602 at 8:36 a.m. following reports of a vehicle fire. The initial fire caused westbound traffic to come to a complete halt.

According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 8:56 a.m., a westbound semi-truck failed to stop and struck a car from behind. The impact pushed the car into a trailer being pulled by a second semi-truck. The collision caused the car and the second semi-trailer to catch fire.

The male occupant of the car was transported to Galion Hospital for treatment of his injuries. His current condition has not been released.

The scene saw a significant mutual-aid response. In addition to the initial responders, crews from the Whetstone Township, Galion, and Crestline fire departments assisted, along with the Crawford County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) provided on-site assistance with the investigation and traffic control. Hensley Towing was called to remove the vehicles.

The crash remains under investigation.
