CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Holmes Township Volunteer Fire Department wrapped up 2025 on a high note, responding to a record number of emergency calls and serving the community with dedication, skill, and heart. As the department moves into 2026, it celebrates not only continued service but also a truly special milestone that highlights the spirit of family and tradition at the heart of volunteer firefighting.
Mark Pfeifer begins training this month, joining his father, Ed, and his grandfather, Chuck. This is the first time in department history that three generations of the same family are serving together — a proud and inspiring moment that reflects the deep family ties, pride, and community spirit that make Holmes Township Volunteer Fire Department so unique.
In 2025, the department responded to 171 calls. Counting each individual firefighter’s response, the total reached 1,204 personnel responses. Those calls ranged from EMS emergencies and structure fires to motor vehicle crashes, brush and grass fires, weather-related incidents, mutual aid responses to neighboring departments, and other investigations. Each call showcases the teamwork, courage, and dedication of the department’s volunteers, who give their time and energy to keeping the township safe.
The new year has already been busy, and volunteers continue to respond to emergencies with the same energy, professionalism, and care that have made the department a trusted and vital part of the community.
