A representative for Regency spoke to the Colonel Crawford Board of Education Monday night to give an update on the construction of the high school wing at Colonel Crawford’s current pre-K through 8 building.

Jeff Fullerman is Colonel Crawford’s owner-agent for the project and explained the three phases of demolition that will take place.

The first phase, which began Monday, was Gandee and Associates beginning work finding where the hazardous materials within the Whetstone and Sulphur Springs school buildings are located. Once the hazardous materials are found, removal of the materials will begin Sept. 1, with demolition by the end of the year.

The high school wing will go up for bid in December with demolition of portions of the current high school occurring next summer.

The new high school wing is scheduled to be opened by fall of 2015.

Five staff members’ retirements were approved by the board Monday night. Those retiring are Kristi Alexander (June 2), Jody Grove (June 1), Jean Schwenning (Aug. 1), Susan Markley (July 1), and Malorie Eckstein (July 1).

Board member Norm Huber said, “All of these people will be sorely missed. They have dedicated much of their lives helping the youth here at Colonel Crawford.”

David Sheldon was unanimously approved as athletics director for grades 7-12 as well as boys head basketball coach for the 2014-2015 season.

Other winter sports coaches approved were Kyle Fenner as head girls basketball coach and Mike Holtzapfel as head swim coach.

The school board approved hiring Squire Sanders as Construction Council and Legal Services for the OFCC project for an estimated $20,000. Also approved was the hiring of Gandee and Associates for preconstruction services as Hazardous Materials Consultant.
