It will be back to the polls for voters in the Colonel Crawford School District. The Colonel Crawford Board of Education on Monday approved submitting the half-mil maintenance levy issue to the Board of Elections Monday night.
The maintenance levy which failed during November’s General Election would raise a total of $57,932 per year at a cost of $17.50 for individuals with houses appraised at $100,000 in the school district.
Superintendent Todd Martin explained the need for passing the tax levy.
“For OFCC projects you have to have .5-mil set aside for 23 years proving that you can maintain what they are building, or otherwise they don’t want to go into business,” Martin said. “There have been too many projects that have been too many projects that the school districts couldn’t fund and maintain it and have had to close, and that is what they are trying to prevent with these levies.”
The board made Martin’s interim superintendent position at Buckeye Central official Monday night. The board approved Martin to serve in the position while the Buckeye Central School District searches for a permanent replacement for former Superintendent Tara Meyerink.
Martin explained how he will split time between the schools.
“I basically am giving up hours after school to go over there, two or three hours a night and maybe on Saturdays. So I am not coming home until later than I normally would. I am basically just giving up some free time for a while.”
Colonel Crawford’s revision to their Open Enrollment Policy allowing students from all other school districts to open enroll at the school had its second reading Monday night. Currently to open enroll at Colonel Crawford one must live in a school district that boarders Colonel Crawford.
All other items on the consent agenda were approved by the board including hiring aides Kim Burgin and Carla Russell.
