Officials are looking at the chimney as the likely cause of a fire early Sunday morning that resulted in thousands of dollars in damage to a Galion home.

The Galion Fire Department received a call reporting a fire at 12:04 a.m. Sunday. The call came from 340 E. Parson St., which is owned by Bill Yost.

There is little to no visible damage to the exterior of the home, but the inside has suffered significant loss.

The loss estimate from the fire is roughly $15,000 in property damage and another $15,000 worth of damage to the contents of the house.

Though the cause of the fire is still currently under investigation, Chief Phil Jackson says the Fire Department suspects the fire originated from the chimney or fireplace.
