The Crawford County Cattlemen’s Association grilled steaks Friday night to make some feed for a couple county schools.

Costing $14.99 each, 250 steak dinners were served from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Cranberry Hills Golf Course to benefit academic endeavors for Buckeye Central and Wynford. Cody Bauer explained that the event was a way for the Cattlemen to give back to the community.

“It is to support the community. Last year we did this at Pete’s and it brought a lot of money to the schools,” Bauer said. “Every year we donate $150 to each school’s booster club and all the money raised for this goes to the academics. It’s something nice to do to get the beef out there and have every get a good steak dinner and raise some money to the schools,”

Last year the benefit took place before, during, and after the Buckeye Central-Colonel Crawford game at Pete’s Cafe. Bauer explained that they chose the Buckeye Central-Wynford game to give money to a different school in the county.

“It went really good last year with Buckeye and Crawford, so we wanted to split it up to a different school,” Bauer said.

The steak dinners weren’t the only money raiser of the evening as there were tip jars throughout The Hills restaurant. Bauer explained that the tip jars carried extra incentive for the schools.

“All the money in the tip jars goes to each school, and then the school with the most money in their tip jars, the Cattlemen will donate additional money to them,” Bauer said.

Cranberry Hills’ owner Keith Alt explained that the restaurant agreed to host the event as it could bring in new potential customers while also benefiting the school.

“They came up to us and asked if we would be interested to participate in it, and we said yeah we would be good, we have enough room in the restaurant and the banquet room,” Alt said. “And we said we could handle that and it is a good way to get new people into the restaurant and benefits the schools, too.”
