Pink Floyd may have shown that pigs could indeed fly, however on Saturday the Crawford County Cattlemen‘s Association had bovine flying off the grill for a good cause in New Washington.

Benefitting both Colonel Crawford and Buckeye Central school districts, the Crawford County Cattlemen’s Association were grilling and serving up steak dinners at Pete’s Café from 4 until 10 p.m. The benefit was sandwiched in between the Buckettes and Lady Eagles’ afternoon game and during and after the Bucks and Eagles’ contest in the evening.

Crawford County Cattlemen’s Association President Randy Lohr explained how they divvied up money for each school.

“This year we are giving $250 to each school at the basketball game between Buckeye Central and Colonel Crawford, and we have tip jars out here at Pete’s Café or people at each school to put money in, and then there is tip jars at the game for people at the game,” Lohr said. “Then whoever puts the most in the tip jars for each school the cattlemen will add another $100 for that school.”

Lohr also noted that the Cattlemen don’t just help out Buckeye Central and Colonel Crawford, but they also donate money to each of the schools that cook beef during their functions. Lohr thanked everyone for their support of the Crawford County Fair, as well as their support by eating beef.

Colonel Crawford Superintendent Todd Martin was appreciative of the gesture.

“The Crawford County Cattleman’s Association is a wonderful group that is very active in the community,” Martin said. “Tonight’s event was a great opportunity to benefit the students of both Colonel Crawford and Buckeye Central.”

Buckeye Central High School Principal Dr. Mike Martin was ecstatic of the fundraiser.

“They rock. It is awesome that we have this unique community support,” Martin said. “It is unique that you have a girls’ game in the afternoon, a boys’ game at night, and both schools meeting here for a good cause. It is just one of the great things about the community that made me come back to raise my family.”

For $14.99 attendees could get a grilled strip steak dinner which included a baked potato, green beans, dinner roll, salad, and desert.
