Sometimes the best way to get more business is to increase the opportunities to do business. That’s the approach Cashland of Bucyrus is taking. Traditionally a payday lender, the store on Washington Square in Bucyrus is expanding into retail sales of used electronics and jewelry.

Supervisor Trisha Appleby explained why the store is moving in that direction.

“We have upgraded the store and have retail now. So on quality used merchandise you can come in can and get it at a reduced price instead of paying full retail on it,” Appleby said. “That’s what we’re hoping – to get more traffic, more people into the unit and see what we’re doing and see what we actually have in the store.”

Appleby said in addition to payday lending, the store has the ability to offer much more for its clients, especially those looking to turn items they own like electronics and gold and diamond jewelry into cash.

“We can buy it, we can sell it, or you can actually do a loan on it,” Appleby said. “That would be up to you. You can also purchase some of the items that we have.”

The idea of the ribbon cutting and “grand re-opening” held with the Bucyrus Area Chamber of commerce on Friday morning is simple – get more people to come through the doors.

“A lot of people think we’re just a cash advance place and we’ve developed into so much more than that,” Appleby said.

The store currently has five employees and began operations in Bucyrus in 2002.
