MOUNT GILEAD—A familiar face will take over the Village Mayor’s office, effective Oct. 3, when Donna Carver is sworn in during regular council session.
“I am so incredibly blessed to live and work in the Village of Mount Gilead. For almost 7 years I’ve been fortunate to serve the residents of Mount Gilead as a member of Village Council,” Carver said.
Mayor Jamie Brucker stepped down recently to take a new position as Morrow County Operations Manager.
“I have been blessed to serve with a truly wonderful group of council members serving under two different mayors,” said Carver. She worked with Brucker and Mike Porter prior to that.
Carver becomes the first female to serve as village mayor.
“I look forward to serving our community in this new role and continuing to work with Jamie in his new role as we work towards positive changes in our village and county. As a local historian and a woman, I am humbled and honored to be the first female mayor of Mount Gilead,” she said.
Carver will serve as Mayor Pro Tempore, per the Ohio Revised Code, until the present term expires on Dec. 31, 2023.
Emily Shaffer, President of Village Council, resigned that post but will remain as a member of village council.
Carver pledged cooperation with village and county officials.
“I will work closely with Jamie, Village Adminstrator Derek Allen, Fiscal Officer Cathy Davis, members of council, village employees and department leaders to ensure a smooth transition,” she said.
“I look forward to serving our community in this new role and continuing to work with Jamie in his new role as we work towards positive changes in our village and county.”
Carver resides in Mount Gilead with her family and has been involved in numerous civic and community projects in recent years, including the Hometown Hero Veterans Banner Project.
