CAREY—In the interest of making sure students feel safe at school, Carey Exempted Village School District Superintendent Michael Wank implemented remote learning for students district-wide on Wednesday.

According to Wank, school officials became aware that a photo of guns and various weapons was circulating on Snapchat with a caption that read, “gonna have fun at school.”

The Carey Police Department and the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Department descended on the homes of two sixth-grade boys in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Police established the source of the photograph was the internet.

No actual weapons were discovered. Authorities deemed the threat as minimal.

Since the photo had been distributed to most of the sixth-grade class, Superintendent Wank decided to put the school district on remote learning for the day.

The boys will face school disciplinary action as well as criminal prosecution.

Carey Schools will resume classes on Thursday.
