CAREY―Samuel W. Seabert, 43, Carey, has been charged with murder, an unclassified felony, for the death of Nathan A. Stroub, 42, Carey.
Seabert, currently housed at Wyandot County Jail, appeared by video call for his initial hearing at Upper Sandusky Municipal Court on Feb. 13.
Judge James Ruhlen told Seabert he faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
Seabert retained attorneys Kellie Saull and Sarah Walter, who entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of Seabert.
Based on the seriousness of the crime, Prosecutor Eric Figlewicz requested the bond be set “no lower than $5 million,” with a number of conditions to be followed.
The prosecutor said Seabert had a handgun and fired multiple shots. He pursued Stroub, who was wounded while fleeing, and Seabert continued shooting at Stroub after the victim had fallen to the ground. The offense took place in a residential area and on a roadway. Figlewicz added that statements and video footage obtained connect Seabert to the crime.
“Obviously this is a serious offense,” Ruhlen said. He ordered that Seabert’s bond be set at $5 million with the following conditions:
Seabert must complete a waiver of extradition, not violate the law, must keep his attorney notified of his address and phone number, consume no drugs or alcohol, not visit an establishment serving alcohol by the drink, must complete drug testing upon request by law enforcement, observe a 6 PM.-6 AM. curfew, be fitted with a GPS monitoring device upon leaving jail, surrender his passport (if he has one), attend all hearings, and have no direct or indirect contact with the victim’s family.’
