The ‘grandparent scam’ hit Bucyrus on Monday.

According to the Bucyrus police report, a resident on Heritage Circle reported someone attempting to scam him out of $1,450. The caller advised the resident that someone called him claiming that the resident’s grandson was in a New York jail and needed to be bailed out. The resident did not give the caller any credit card information.

Scams against senior citizens are not unusual. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has received roughly 40 complaints involving the ‘grandparent scam’ this year with an average reported loss of over $4,000.

Anyone who believes that have been a victim of a scam should contact their local police department or the Ohio Attorney General.
