With the 2015 Crawford County Fair drawing to a close the Junior Fair participants saw their hard work pay off at Saturday’s Sale of Champions and Livestock Sale.

livestock sale 2In a new format for the county fair the champions of each species were sold before their respective species went on the bidding block. Even with the new format records were still broken Saturday thanks to buyers who often went in together purchase the animals.

That was certainly the case for Kendal Widman who befitted from the generosity of approximately 20 buyers led by Schiefer Insurance to purchase her grand champion steer for a record price of $10,250.

A new record for market hogs was also set as Kelsie Williams’ grand champion sold for $4,300 to a conglomerate of Wyandot Tractor, Pioneer Seeds, Becks Hybrids, Poet Biorefining, and Isla Grand Farms.

Williams explained that she is happy that people are supporting the fair and the animals.

“It feels really good that people support the fair and the animals so much that they want to set a record,” Williams said.

A new record was set in the Market Lamb sale as well as the reserve champion belonging to Alan Leonhart sold for $4,400. Livia Leonhardt’s grand champion sold for $1,225.
