The Crawford Park District has an ambitious and busy weekend schedule coming up. Three events are scheduled for Saturday and another on Sunday. They are:
Caterpillars
Saturday, July 25 10am Heckert Nature Preserve, 1601 State Route 19
Join Crawford Park District Naturalist Josh Dyer for this program on
caterpillars. Caterpillar is the common name for moth and butterfly
larva. While the adults are more visible, the little secretive
caterpillars are very important ecologically. Join Josh to explore the
world of caterpillars through tree shaking and leaf looking and to see
the many ways they have developed to stay hidden from predators. All
ages welcome. Heckert Nature Preserve is located at 1601 State Route
19 west of State Route 602.
Daughmer Savannah Nature Hike
Saturday, July 25 3 PM Daughmer Savannah SNP
Marion-Melmore Rd. north of SR 294
Meet Crawford Park District Naturalist, Warren Uxley, at the Daughmer
Savannah parking lot for a program featuring this rare area. Considered
by many to be a natural area of global significance, Daughmer is a
magnificent remnant of Ohio’s once vast tallgrass prairie. Late July is
a time of transition; plant, bird and insect communities are undergoing
major changes. Meet at the parking lot at 786 Marion-Melmore road just
north of SR 294.
Viewing the Night Sky
Saturday, July 25 9pm Lowe Volk Park, 2401 State
The Crawford Park District invites you to join members from the Richland
Astronomical Society and Crawford Park District volunteers as they share
their knowledge and telescope skills with those interested in the
celestial sights. Bring your own telescope or allow the volunteers
assist you with those provided. Lowe-Volk Park is located 3 miles
