A Bucyrus woman was killed Friday evening in a two-car crash at the intersection of St. Rt. 602 and Lincoln Highway. The 911 call reporting the accident was received at 5:04 p.m.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office reported that 80-year-old Ada Markley was headed north on 602 when her vehicle failed to stop at that intersection. Markley’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a vehicle driven by 48-year-old Jerry Gifford of Bucyrus. Gifford was travelling east on Lincoln Highway.

The impact of the collision took both vehicles in a northeast direction into a yard where they came to rest.

Markley was declared deceased at the scene by Crawford County Coroner Dr. Michael Johnson. Gifford was transported to Bucyrus Community Hospital by Life Support ambulance for treatment.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and the Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation to determine what other factors may have been involved.

Those vehicles were taken from the scene by Bloomfield Towing and the Oceola Garage.

In a press release, Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent expressed his appreciation to the first responders at the scene. “With wind chills bringing the temperatures well below zero, this was a difficult crash to investigate and clean up. Many crashes during this time of year, can be completed with limited time in the elements. This crash required all on scene to be exposed to harsh conditions for a couple of hours. The responders on scene, many being volunteers, handled the scene professionally and with great respect for the crash victims. Their dedication to their chosen profession and to the citizens of Crawford County are greatly appreciated.”
