Bucyrus United Methodist Church has announced a bold plan designed to carry the church into the next phase of ministry to the community. The campaign, “Bricks of Faith: Laying Bricks, Building Faith,” will be raising funds for an addition to the church’s current Worship Center at 227 S. Walnut St., Bucyrus.

The project is in response to the growth experienced since the July 2011 merger of Grace, Epworth, and First United Methodist churches into one single congregation. Since then, 60 new members have joined the Church, three worship services are conducted each Sunday, mission projects to the community have multiplied, and activities have outgrown the church’s current facilities at The Worship Center and at its Administrative & Outreach Center at 216 Hopley Avenue. New construction will provide more classrooms and meeting areas, restrooms, an elevator/casket lift, a covered main entrance, a courtyard, and more parking spaces. All of the work is being done by local contractors and sub-contractors.

Bricks of Faith will be led by Pastors Mike Corwin and Don Kraps and by Horizons Stewardship Company’s consulting pastor Rev. Franklin “Zip” Long of Cabot, Arkansas. Church officials estimate the campaign will last four months, culminating in the membership committing itself to gifts over a three-year period to offset the $800,000 cost of the addition and renovations.

Co-chairs of the campaign are Harold and Martha Eppley and Phil and Marilyn Harris. Bricks of Faith volunteers see this campaign as a means by which exciting new ministries can be offered by the congregation to the community.
