NEWS RELEASE:
BUCYRUS — After nine and a half years leading the local YMCA as President & CEO, Steven Crone will be leaving his current post to take on a new challenge with the Cleveland YMCA.
“It is bitter sweet to think about leaving such a great community and an outstanding organization like the Bucyrus-Tiffin YMCA,” Crone said.
Crone has led the YMCA through several transformational projects, including a $2.8 million campaign at the Tiffin Y in 2015 and the recent management agreement and merger of the two community Y’s in Bucyrus and Tiffin.
When asked about his achievements such as being named 2018 OHIO YMCA CEO of the Year in 2018, Crone credits the volunteer board leadership with generating the capacity for change and having the vision for a new culture and cause to strengthen our community by improving the lives of families.
“We have a Y staff that cares about each member and believes in our mission: To put Christian principles into practice that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all, Crone said. “The current leadership staff is the most talented group of team members I have had the opportunity to work with in my 17-plus year Y career. The Y is in good hands, during the transition and into the future”.
“Most of all I am going to miss the people, that is what the Y is all about,” Crone said. His last day will be on July 16, Community leaders and Y members will be invited to an event on July 13 as a farewell gathering, at the YMCA in Tiffin.
“Steve had changed the culture of the Y, developed the staff team and lead the Y through a transitional period,” Charles Ardner, board of trustees chair, said. “He is leaving the Y in a strong position. Steve will be greatly missed, and on behalf of the board, I would like to thank him publicly for his tireless service to the Y and to the communities we serve”.
Ardner shared that the Y board will begin the search process for a new CEO immediately, seeking applicants locally and nationally. He expects to have a new President & CEO in place by early 2019.
