It’s been a long time in the making, but on Thursday evening the Bucyrus City Schools Board of Education approved a new contract with district teachers.

Members of the Bucyrus Education Association had ratified the pact two days earlier.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank the teachers, their negotiating team and the BEA leadership for their unwavering support of the students in our district,” Board of Education President Brad Murtiff said in a press release. “We are very pleased with the new agreement, and appreciate the BEA’s willingness to agree to work with us to reach a new contract that helps the district as we navigate the ever changing landscape of school finances.”

Superintendent Kevin Kimmel discussed the negotiations.

“The teacher contract has been settled and we are very pleased to have a contract in place and appreciate both sides working together in the best interest of our students, our staff and community as a whole” Kimmel said. “(I) appreciate the willingness on the teachers’ behalf to work with the school district and the Board of Education to get a deal done.”

Complete details of the new contract were not immediately available. The agreement will be in effect from 2014 to 2017.

“The concessions made by both the Board of Education and BEA benefit both sides favorably,” Bucyrus Treasurer Ryan Cook said in the press release. “It is well known that school district finances become more challenging every year, and the two sides recognized the trend and worked together to make this happen.”
